Welcome all newcomers to our blog and welcome back to all our loyal followers. We hope this blog finds you well. Our niche is focused on special needs awareness and acceptance, and to be more specific, autism awareness. We understand there are many people who prefer the word acceptance over awareness. We are respectful towards your opinions and hope that you will remain respectful towards ours. We choose to use the words awareness as well as acceptance because we believe you can’t accept anything that has not been made aware to you. While we promote inclusiveness of the special needs community, we also advocate for knowledge (awareness) of the special needs community because the more you know, the more you can advocate. With that being said, our awareness and acceptance products include t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, tank tops, phone cases and more. In addition to introducing everyone to our merch shop, we would like to share our top 3 tips that we found extremely helpful to creating and running our shop. If you are interested in knowing our top 3 tips, please continue reading below.


Our Top 3 Tips on Opening a Merch Shop


Find Your Niche!

In our opinion, this is one of the most important tips to follow. In our case, our niche is special needs awareness. While we will offer other designs that don’t necessarily focus on special needs awareness, our primary focus (niche) is special needs awareness. You need to know what you are going to sell before you even begin to sell. If you enter the process with a mindset that you are going to sell to “everyone”, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Knowing your niche, will help you market your product to the right audience and reach the realistic goals that you set. This brings us to our second tip.


Know Your Audience

Who is your intended audience? Who are the people that will be using their buying power to purchase your products? Once you answer these questions, do your research. Learn how your audience use their buying power. Learn what it is that they want and how you can provide it. How will your product make a difference for your intended audience? The answers to these questions will help you design and market your products to their fullest potential. Now onto our last but not least tip.


Don’t Give Up Too Quickly

This seems like a no brainer. However, there are many people who are quick to throw in the towel when they don’t get that immediate gratification that they are seeking from becoming a business owner. Don’t let this be you. Stay realistic in your goals and intentions. Success doesn’t normally happen overnight. I say normally, because there are a few overnight success cases. However, they are far and few in-between. You must be persistent and maintain perseverance. If something doesn’t work, you can always try something new. If you find that one of your products isn’t selling as well as others, you can always remove it and revisit the design to improve it. This actually happened with one of our designs. The design was rejected due to quality issues. We went back in, study out designed thoroughly, and decided an element of the design needed to be improved upon. We didn't give up or throw away the design completely. We improved upon it. Remember, there is always room for improvement.

Of course, there are many more tips to opening and running an online merch business. We are just offering our top 3. We suggest that if you are interested in starting your own merch shop, make sure you do in-depth research on the process. This way you will have a better understand and have an idea of what to expect during the process.
